Helping the Moving Process Move Along

The average person lives in one home for an average of five years. Averages can be misleading however because what could actually be happening is there are a few people moving a lot and a lot of people who only move every once and a while to Oklahoma real estate. For many they may stay in their current home for ten to twenty years. This article is written to the latter group of people. Because you do not move as often, when the time finally does come they are generally out of practice and so the whole process may seem foreign and stressful. There are a lot of things to think about when moving and the thought of forgetting some of them are part of what adds to this stress. This article gives a list of things to think about when moving. It is not a list of do’s and do not’s, but rather simply a list of things to think about and brainstorm.

First, it makes good sense to start packing early. If you have ever helped someone moved to new Oklahoma real estate then you know the frustration that comes with walking into someone’s home and seeing all their knick knacks still on the shelves waiting to be boxed up. Not only is this an inconvenience to your help, who may be volunteers, but it can be quite embarrassing to have other people all go through your belongings. Start early to avoid this and make sure that you have some type of system to it. This way when you get to your new house and begin the unpacking process, there will be less hassles and it may actually even be somewhat of a pleasant experience.

Second as you are packing things up make it a time to throw away things that you do not need or do not use any more. This can be easier said than done. Often times parting with ones useless belongings is a hard thing to do emotionally. But, as a general rule of thumb if you have not even thought about the object in the last two years then chances are after you throw it away you will never think about it again. What you will have gained is kind of a Zen feeling. There is a special feeling with decluttering your life. As Brad Pitt in Fight Club but it “the things you own end up owning you.”

The third thing that you will need to decide is whether or not to hire a moving company. There are a few criteria to use when contemplating this decision. First do you have a lot of expensive stuff? If the answer is yes then you will definitely want to invest in an insured and competent mover. This will allow you to repurchase anything which is damaged in the move. The second criteria is will you be able to find enough people to help you? If not then you really have no choice, a moving company it is. If you cannot afford a moving company at all well then you really have to do everything yourself or just stay where you are.
